| Affiliates NSO supports Wisconsin staffer in potential dismissal In a move designed to get rid of their present director, the North Shore United Educators (NSUE) of Wisconsin has posted their director position and is insisting that the current director apply for the job. NSUE is going into the United Employer Association (UEA) and is using the move as an excuse to hire a new staffer. The move is scheduled for Sept. 1. “Other directors have not had to reapply for their jobs. This is a heinous act,” said Fred Andrist, president of the USU. The local decided on its own to move to a new employer after the retirement of one of their directors. That left the current staffer with a significant increase in workload. Despite 15 years of experience, there’s no guarantee that the director will be rehired. “If any of our district superintendents pulled such a move on one of our teachers, the local would be up in arms. It would be a termination without just cause,” Andrist commented. Andrist believes that the local’s underlying motive is a concern over performance issues. He went on to say that the local is not addressing the issues but is declaring that this action is not disciplinary. “The posting will remain active until the job is filled. We’re asking that no NSO member apply for this job and if someone has already applied, they would withdraw their name,” Andrist said. NSO supports the request. When the local moves to UEA, Andrist hopes WEAC will have more of an influence over the group. Use this link to access the NSO Membership System.
